Three Miles Wide

Within a three miles wide space above our earth, lies the entire living space for all terrestrial life. This is a distance you can walk in less than an hour; a short trip to get groceries; less than a few minutes of driving on a highway. From space, this area of our atmosphere appears to be only a thin film covering earths surface. Human activity that is currently supporting the 7.7 billion people living on this planet, is pumping more Carbon Dioxide and greenhouse gasses into this small space than our planet can process. The rate of the increase of these pollutants in our atmosphere has been rising exponentially in recent decades. Serious world and regional problems are already occurring. If we don’t limit this pollution of our atmosphere, the worsening effects of climate change will have disastrous consequences.

There are solutions to this problem. We can reduce, and even reverse, the effects of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But, we must act soon.
